The line graph depicts the number of carbon dioxide each person discharges in the selected four countries across the world in 1967 and 2007.

Overall, the CO2 emission rates of Italy and Portugal showed a significant rise, while in the UK experienced a downward trend over the period. In Sweden however, they experienced an upward trend at the beginning but dropped sharply at the end.

In 1967, the CO2 emission of Italy and Portugal were nearly 4m and 1m, respectively. Portugal's rate increased gradually to about 3m in 1987 and a rapid surge to more than 6m in the following ten years. In the meantime, Italy increased sharply around 7m, exceeding Sweden's rate in 1987 and reaching almost 8m in 1997. Both countries remained constant through the end of the period.

The CO2 emitted in the United Kingdom experience a gradual decreased of about 11m initially and hit a low of about 8m in 2007. Furthermore, Sweden had almost 8m of CO2 emission in 1967 and hitting the highest point of about 10m in the next ten years. However, it dramatically declined to 5m in 2007.
