The reading asserts that, there is a theory asserting bees were not exist as early as 200 million years ago. Since, fossil structures resemble bee nests have been found inside 200-million-year-old tree in the united states. But, skeptics believe these fossils were not created by bees due to three reasons. The lecture, however, finds this idea dubious and cast doubt on the reasons proposed by the reading passage.
The author argues that, the first reason is no fossils of actual bees have been found related to that period of time. In contrast, the lecture brings up the idea that, it is true that there are no fossils of bees, but fossils can be preserved only in a specific conditions, in fossils' resine exposed by special trees, and this type of trees become common long after fossils. Thus, due to absence of trees, fossils have been ruined.
Furthermore, The reading passage holds the view that, there were no flowering plants in order to be bees' food. On the contrary, the professor underscore the fact that, old ancient bees may have been feeding on non-flowering plants.
Finally, it is stated in the reading passage that, the structures lack some details relating to bees. And the fossilized structures were made by other insects. On the other hand the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that, ancient bees use kind of chemical material against water. And in the structures there is fossils' waterproofing chemical.
