The percentage of both home owners and tenants remained unchanged between these two countries in 1939 and 1953, as the occupants and householder took 68 percent and 32 percent respectively. The following years; in 1961, the number of residents continue to decline, while the house possessors movedup. In 1971, there was an equal 50 percent of both lodgers and homeowners.
Highlighted on the graph, from 1971 to 1981 there was a 10 percent upward and downward movement of people living in rented households and those in their own apartments respectively. A slight increase in number of home owners noted from 68 percent in 1991 to 69 percent in 2001. This trend is also similar to rented households which moved downwards from 22 percent in 1991 to 21 percent in 2001. The number of landlords decreased slightly from 69 percent in 2001 to 64 percent in 2011, similarly for those lived as tenants, there was an increase from 31 percent in 2001 to 35 percent in 2011.
