The charts above compare the percentage of water usage of various sectors in Sydney, Australia between 1997 and 2007.
While the figures for all sectors changed between the two surveyed years, it is clear that the food industry consumed the highest amount of water overall. Building industry, on the other hand, had the lowest percentage of water usage out of all sectors.
There are three sectors experienced the decline of the total water use percentage in 2007, compared with 1997. The food industry accounted for 48% in 1997, but only 41% for 2007. Manufacturing and building industry 's water used also fell 3-4% each. While building industry still maintained the lowest position, manufacturing sector from third place with 15% percent in 1997 is down to fourth place in 2007 with only 11%.
Noticeably, there was a major increase in the proportion of water used by the service sector, from 13% to 25%. Also, household use of water slightly rose 2% to reach 21% in 2007.
