The graph below shows the production levels of main fuels in a European country from 1981 to 2000. Measured in tonnes.
The given illustration depicts the changes in main fuel production levels in one European nation between 1981 and 2000. It is clear from the chart that the production of coal dropped remarkably while those of Petroleum and natural gas considerably went up.
Over the 20-year span since 1981, although Petroleum production experienced a wide fluctuation of which the peak and the nadir were at 137 and 99 tonnes respectively, the production number reached just over 120 tonnes in 2000. Meanwhile, natural gas production of the country reached a plateau at 40 tonnes in the first 14 years, followed by an abrupt surge of 100 % over the half of a decade.
By comparison, the production of coal decreased from 80 in 1981 to roughly 40 tonnes in 2000 - a 50 % shrinkage - during the period. Due to this decline, coal became the least preferred source of fuel, and 1997 marked the first time ever that natural gas production officially exceeded that of coal.
To summarize, Petroleum accounted for the majority of produced fuel and there was a shift from coal to natural gas as sources of fuel.
