Overall, it can be seen that the number of men and women employees in England and Wales has decreased dramatically, while the factories witnessed a significant increase.
In 1851, the number of male workers was far more than women, which was 287,100 and 190,000 relatively. In contrast, at the end of the period, the number of men workers only 10,000 higher than that of females. In five different period of years given, only in 1861, the number of working women was higher than the figure for men.
In 1851, there were only 225 organisations. Following the next ten years, 2 more factories have been established. A significant growth in the number of companies can be seen in the next 20 years, at 721 plants. Then there was a decline in the number of companies to only 625 in 1891, before hitting the even number of 600 companies.
