The two tables depict the sales of coffee and bananas sold under Fairtrade label in the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden in the years 1999 and 2004.
Overall, in 1999, the highest sales of coffee were recorded in Switzerland and least in Sweden, whereas 2004 statistics show the UK to be at the top, while Sweden remained the least in sales. Sales of bananas were again the most in Switzerland and least in Belgium in the first year, whereas in the second year, Denmark showed the least sales while Switzerland remained on top.
Coffee sales in 1999 show Switzerland to be the top spender at 3 million euros, while Sweden spent the least, about only 0.8 million euros. However, in 2004, the sales in UK rose sharply from 1.5 to 20 million euros, while least expenditure on coffee was still in Sweden.
Bananas were sold the most in Switzerland, earning 15 million euros, whereas the least sales were seen in Belgium at a mere 0.6 million in 1999. However, sales in 2004 show Switzerland to be the top buyer yet again, at an extraordinary 47 million, while Denmark turned in the least profit, a mere 0.9 million euros worth of bananas were sold there.
