The graph provides the estimated maximum population of elephants in a range of Asian countries from 1994 to 2004.
Overall, its clear that India was the higher elephants population in the Asia region and Mayanmar-Thailand was the second and third largest elephants population in this region. Conversely, china had a very small population among the countries.
This was most noticeable in India, where the number of elephants thought to be higher in 1997 at 10000, after that in 2004 the population of elephants slightly decrease at 7000. In Thailand and Mayanmar the population of the elephant was at 5000 and 3500 in 1997 and rapidly dropped as low as at 4500 and 1000 in 2004. China had a very low population of at most 500 elephants by 2004.
Although the trend was downwards overall, elephant populations were thought to have remained stable in Laos and Vietnam at nearly 1200. The only country where elephants showed signs of recovering was Cambodia, where numbers may have risen by up to 200.
