Question : Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
In the reading passage, the author feels that are three possible explanations for the cause of the Little Ice Age. However, finding all these ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented and states some evidence to the contrary.
To begin with, the author claims that the Little Ice Age may have been caused by disrupting of ocean currents. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. He argues that this theory does not justify the existence of this period in New Zealand, only in Europe and North America. Hence, he thinks that this ideia is faulty.
Secondly, the writer suggests that volcanic eruption could have caused the Little Ice Age. In contrast, this explanation is rejected by the lecture. He says that volcano eruption will not cause a large amount of dust to cause the Little Ice Age. Moreover, he points out that have few reports of grew and brown snow, fact that could justify this theory.
Finally, the reading presents that decreases in human populations may have contributed indirectly to the Little Ice Age. But, the professor rebuts this by mentioning that the time for occur the Little Ice Age is too short to reduce the global temperature. Also, he says that grow of the population will cause the use of forest trees to fields.
