In some countries, people earn extremely high amount of salary. Some believe that when salaries are high it is good for a country, while others think that it might be harmful for a nation.
Discuss both views.
Compensation is always considered to be a significant factor in determining the satisfactions of employees. It is often argued that higher amount of salary is beneficial for a nation. While some scholars believe that offering handsome salaries to employees results excessive inflation and devaluation of currency, others opine that the higher the salary the better will be economic development and security system of a country.
On one hand, it is found that the higher amount of salary boosts the economic development and strengthens security system of a nation. Firstly, when high compensations offered to employees, government can impose and collect income taxes from salaries, culminating the rise in tax revenue, infrastructure development and investment. For instance, government of British Virgin Island raised the salaries of factory workers in 2012; this policy accelerated the development of new roads in rural areas of the country. Moreover, handsome salaries strengthen security system of a nation because government can invest huge amount of tax revenue on military equipment and research for nuclear weapons.
On the other hand, excessive inflation and devaluation of currency might arise when salary is relatively high. First of all, when salaries are high, product prices and standard of living show increasing trends rapidly. For example, the housing price in Canada grew from $580 to $ 870 in 2016 after the average national salary had improvised. Another aspect could be devaluation of currency due to rise in salaries. With the increase in salary, foreign direct investment goes up significantly that cause the depreciation of domestic currency in which salaries grow. For instance, Dr. Amir Sharif, a Finance Lecturer of University of Bath stated that investors of Pakistan started to invest money outside of the country because of improving savings that resulted from high salary.
To conclude, some experts think that offering high salary improves economy and security system of a country, although others opine that it might culminate inflation and devalue currency.
