The reading and the lecture are both about the advantages of solar energy. The author of the reading passage feels that there are three explanations for the merits of using solar energy. However, the lecturer challenges these points. He is of the opinion that these reasons are faulty.
To begin with, the author asserts that using solar energy can lessen the usages of fossil fuels and avoid the energy of overproduction as the source of it is non-renewable. On the other hand, this concept is refuted by the lecturer which suggests that fossil fuels have to be used in order to produce solar panels. Additionally, he says that the energy produced will outweigh the amount of energy made.
Another point the article puts on emphasis in terms of health is that using solar energy can eliminate the emission of harmful chemicals as it declines the usage of fossil fuels. In opposition, the professor contends this by saying that solar energy is not only clean but it can regulate how much a person uses the energy which saves their money as well.
Finally, in contrast to the reading passage's claim that the solar panel can live for about thirty years even though the price is cheap, it is accentuated in the lecture that a large amount of energy obtained can be sold to various corporations. Besides, he mentions that the cost of maintenance could be cover-up by the tax incentives.
