“Let it burn” policy
Both the author and the lecturer discuss whether "let it burn" policy is a good plan or not. The passage claims that this policy has several harmful effects on the forest. The professor, on the other hand, completely rejects whatever mentioned in the reading through citing three reasons.
First, both the author and the professor talk about the effect of Yellowstone fires on the park's trees. According to the passage, these fires caused a huge damage to the park's trees and other plants. In addition, trees and other fauna were charred and covered from flames and smoke. The lecturer, nevertheless, rejects the author’s view and illustrates the idea that these fires help natural forests to their diversification and create the opportunity for other plants to grow.
Second of all, both the reading and the lecturer discuss the influence of these fires on the park’s wildlife. The author argues that these fires destroy the habitats of many kinds of animals. The professor validates the idea emphasizing that these fires, not only create an opportunity for other plants to grow, but they also help the forest to be an ideal habitat for animals.
Eventually, the passage and the lecture address the subject of tourist attraction. The passage goes on to mention that the fire damages the park, so the tourist season was cut short, and a large number of tourists decided to stay away. In contrast, the professor points out that fires do not have appear every year and annually, so they do not have a considerable effect on this matter.
All in all, the author mentions that these fires caused a huge impact on forests, the professor not only completely cast doubt on it, but she also demonstrates that these forests gain a significant benefit from the fire.
