hello hello
The reading passage gives information about a Roman Emperor, Claudius and claims that he is very innovative, wise and just. It mentions that he gave new opportunities to slaves, women and his wives. However, the professor disagrees with the text by saying that even though he did a few innovative things, he was a terrible and unjust leader.
The reading passage suggests that Claudius was very innovative. He built a new harbour and various aqueducts to aid the availability of clean water. However, the professor refutes Claudius' innovation and fairness by explaining that he paid money to the previous army and came into power by assassinating the previous ruler of the empire. The professor goes on to say that Claudius' ruling was so terrible that it could have led to a civil war.
The text claims that Claudius was very wise and that he protected and gave opportunities to slaves, women and his wives. He even gave citizenship to new people. The professor refutes this by saying that many slaves were corrupt and had large personal fortunes at the expense of common Roman people's wealth. These slaves were highly susceptible to bribery as well. He points out the fact that his wife of disloyal to him and one of them even poisoned him.
The passage praises Claudius by mentioning that he was very fair and had a good judgement. On the other hand, the professor states that Claudius was a bad judge who reached final decisions without even listening to the people. He also indulged in violent games and kill common people for his pleasure. His judgement of making his child the heir was terrible as his child went on to be the worst leader of the umpire.
