IELTS 10 Test 4 Writing Task 1 - Academic
The illustrations demonstrate the life cycle of a species of large fish named salmon. In general, the drawings provide information from birth of the salmon to its young age form to its adult form to its egg.
More specifically, adult salmons lay eggs in between reeds(grasses of rivers) in the upper river which is also deemed to have a characteristc of slow moving flow. After that, the young salmons called "fry" go into the lower river (fast moving flow) and stay there for approximately 4 years. Furthermore, they become middle aged salmons named "smolt" of 12-15 cm of size, and go into open sea. Then, they slowly transform into adult salmons, and lay eggs in the upper rivers. Hence, the cycle of life starts again.
Interestingly, it takes about 4 years to get from "fry" (younglings of salmon) to "smolt" (middle aged salmon), and approximately 5 years to get from "smolt" to "adult salmon". As a result, the whole life cycle of a single salmon takes about 10 years to complete. Moreover, there is size discrepancy, from "fry" to "smolt", the size difference is about 9-12 cm, but from "smolt" to "adult salmon", its about 60-65 cm difference.
