A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until
they enter college.
In my opinion a nation should incorporate a single curriculum in all its regions; this ensures equal opportunities to all of its students. Discrimination of curriculum in different regions eventually leads to discrimination in college admission process. Also,a national curriculum is likely to be a more standard one, compared to a localized state curriculum.
For example, in India, it is found that students enrolled in a national curriculum are successful in securing their place in elite Indian colleges. On the other hand, students enrolled in regional state curriculum find themselves very hard in college entrance examinations. This mainly because regional curriculum is parochial in nature; it insists more on local knowledge. Things gets even more worse, when regional curriculum follows every course in local language.
In contrast , national curriculum is more standardized in manner; it is updated with recent global and national trends. In fact, students following national curriculum are very comfortable in global platform. Recent trends in campus recruitment show that students following national curriculum are preferred over regional board students. This is the case especially with developing countries, where recruiter are doubtful over efficiency regional board curriculum.
However, champions of regional curriculum might undermine the given notion by arguing that national curriculum fails to address regional educational requirements, like learning local languages, knowledge about provincial traditions and awareness of local political trends.
Nevertheless, as world is rapidly evolving as one globe, eliminating nugatory regional differences is important. It is thus important, that the education follows a universal trend rather than a provincial one. It is no doubt, that recent globalization is demanding students to be evaluated on one standardized benchmark. Therefore, significance of single national curriculum can't be ignored. Perhaps, one step ahead would be implementation of a global curriculum, which will ensure an International standard in education all over the world.
