The table illustrates how the percentage of indigence was distributed in many types of Australian families in 1999. Overall, sole parent witnessed the highest proportion whereas the lowest figure came from aged couple.
The worst scenario of poverty was reported in sole parent family. It was found that a staggering 21% of household lived in difficulties. This percentage was measurably high from the percentage of single people with no children by 2%. As a result, the family type, which was being single with no kids and living in poor state, became the second most popular situation in Australia at that time. Moreover, except for family categories of all households and couple with children, the others all saw a percentage of poverty below 10%.
It is obvious that the proportion of single aged person household was as twice as that of couple with children, with 6% and 12% respectively. In addition, the family type as a couple with no children who lived indigently was 1% higher than single aged person group (at 7%). Last but not least, 4% of Australian individuals as aged couples having a poor life accounted for the lowest percentage among other family types.
