The diagram illustrates data about how many packages were delivered by two main post services companies over 80 years. Information is shown for FedEx and TNT Mail Services from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, both companies have a rise in productivity over the period. But TNT’s growth surpassed and also dramatically higher than FedEx’s one at the end.
In the first 60 years of the time, TNT developed steadily with humble beginnings over 5000 parcels. From the 50s to 60s, the performance of them boosted up and hit a peak in 60s, approximately 12000, but after that, the output slightly dropped and gained back in 80s. More than that, in the two last decades, the number of items shipped by TNT rocketed significantly, up to 25000 parcels. This is their highest record all over time.
Meanwhile, FedEx had a bigger scale at first but didn’t make progress like TNT. With a three times higher start, however, FedEx’s first-half period seems flopped. Their business flourished until 1940, with more than 24000 boxes delivered in the 40s, then plummeted even lower than the start. The decline continued and finally stopped in 1960, at this time, their work almost equal to the opponent with a difference of around 500 packages. Since then, FexEd experienced 20 years of recovery and growth with high rates, the productivity leveled off in the last 20 years.
