The maps illustrate changes that took place in Fenton city between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, the most striking feature is that the residential areas were dramatically increased, while the green areas were declined. Furthermore, some recreational facilities were added, while some buildings remained unchanged over the entire period.
In terms of residencies, there was a marked increase in housing, especially to the east of the High street. The houses on the east were converted into blocks of flats, and new flats were constructed in the northeast, just right to the High street. In addition, playing fields with trees in the north were replaced by blocks of flats. The trees on the southwest were chopped down to build a technopark.
The cafe and park to the east of the High street were rebuilt to a hotel and golf course. The theatre, located on the south side of the cafe and park, was converted into a cinema, and the shops, located on the southeast, were turned into a supermarket. The bank in the west was converted into a restaurant, and the hospital in the center was expanded. The school, library, and the High street are the only features that remained untouched over the period.
