did Sinasauropteryx have feather or not. Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they respond to the specific points made reading passage.
The reading and the lecture are both about the credence of the of the hypothesis regarding Sinasauropteryx. In the passage the author provides three theories in order to refute the interpretations of the evidence acquired through fossils which argue that this type of dinosaur had feather. On the other hand, the professor is not convinced of this and casts doubt on each of the theories presented in the passage. The lecturer is of the opinion that these dinosaurs, definitely, had feather based on the following debated.
First of all, the author argues that the lines which are defined as remains of the feather can be created after the animals were dismissed. Accordingly, the passage mentions that the skin has decomposed into fibers, and the fibers have been preserved in the volcano ash, where the bodies has been buried. This specific argument has been challenged by the lecturer. According to the professor, since other bodies corps’ skins in the same site were totally preserved, these lines are not formed from fibers created by skin decomposition. Therefore, the lecturer firmly clings to this claim that the lines are caused by feather.
Secondly, the writer disputes that these lines can give rise to the hypothesis that they are shaped from frills’ remains which is fan-shape structure out of the animals’ body. The lecturer, on the contrary, opposed this notion by providing the chemical analysis evidences. furthermore, he elaborates on this by bringing the point that feather has a chemical substance thoroughly distinct from frills, which gives credence to the note that they cannot be mistaken.
Finally, the writer points to the ordinary function of the feather to averts that the remains are not from feather. To elucidate, it is mentioned in the passage that animals apply their feather for thermoregulation or flying purposes; however, they have been assumed needless of both these objections. In contrast, the professor put forward to the point that beside these purposes, animals utilize feather to attract their mate which is known as display function. Hence, since these animals structure indicates colorfulness, it can be implied that they apply display function, and hardly we can assert that the remains were not feather.
