Twenty years ago, Dr. Field, a noted anthropologist, visited the island of Tertia. Using an observation-centered approach to studying Tertian culture, he concluded from his observations that children in Tertia were reared by an entire village rather than by their own biological parents. Recently another anthropologist, Dr. Karp, visited the group of islands that includes Tertia and used the interview-centered method to study child-rearing practices. In the interviews that Dr. Karp conducted with children living in this group of islands, the children spent much more time talking about their biological parents than about other adults in the village. Dr. Karp decided that Dr. Field's conclusion about Tertian village culture must be invalid. Some anthropologists recommend that to obtain accurate information on Tertian child-rearing practices, future research on the subject should be conducted via the interview-centered method.
Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.
Parenthood is complex phenomenon that cannot be estimated or limited to some studies. We encounter many children some trouble, some extremely guilable and some amicable with different parenting experiences. Children have attuned senses in recognizing their parents, their voices, touch and most importantly their scents. This is an inante sense every child is born with. It is one of the reasons why the motherhood is cherished to no ends and the belief of a newborn recognising their mother by touch is not proved wrong. This accute sense a child posses can be a result of rearing them in their initial days or because it is instinctual. In any case, it is not denined that the bond parents create with a child, whether its contrieve or natural, is developed in the nascent stages and resonates through out their childhood. In the same way, the parents too might have a senstive simuli towards the presence of their children. Though it is not proved true, it could be the reason why all the beings,no matter the species, always return back to their nest or home after the end of the day. This desire to belong or to posses something that was nutured by the individuals could be the potential reason.
Though this connection or bond is mesmirizing, it is not rational to forget that apart from this emotional attachment, a child comes with responcsbility. Most newborn parents do not know how to care and foster the children and stuggle immensely. In extreme cases this lack of proper care can result mental and physical disorders in children and in worst cases can even lead to death. Apart from this initial care, children come with a need of attention. Its proven that a newborn needs to held and touched for their sensories to develop efficiently. They also come with keen sense og curiousity to touch and tacte everything they see. If the necessary precautions are not taken this could lead to many disasters. This constant handling of the attention they require, appeasing their curiousity while caring for their health can be taxing on both the parents. This could be the main reason why single parents suffer so much. This could result sleepless nights and burned out appetite. As much as people glorify parenthood it is not with its drawbacks. But the crucial thing note is that, this exahaution can lead to irascible comportment in parents that could scar their children for life.
But all these dire consequences and the burden that comes with the parenthood can be reduced with the help of others. When the whole village tries to divide their time in rearing these children and giving the parents a much needed break, it couls drastically improve the falling mental health of the parents and improve the realtionship between the newborn and the villagers. Though nuturing can sound easy, it is difficult procedure where experience plays the key role. With the elderly in the village patient enough to work through the need of attention and desire to be held by the children and the young adults curious and caring enough to play and concilate the curiousity in these new borns with caution, the burden is reduced quite drastically, leaving the parents to just concentrate on guiding the behaviour of the children. With everyone playing a vital role in raising a child it is easier to assume that they are equally amenable with everyone. Though it could be true in some cases, the beautiful thing about humans is that their affection cannot be studied or measures scientifically.
As already discussed, this urge to return home to your ownby humans drives these little children to their safe spot, that is their parent. Most relations in possesed by humans are convinient relationships. That is relations formed by constantly seeing them everyday. This could be the reason why the emphasis of parents is more than villagers as they see them quite literally everyday. Maybe of they spend more time with the villagers or spend their nights with the villagers, the answer could be different. But since the start of the time due to cultural and pshycreasons it is mandatory for children to stay the night with parents. This does not mean that they are not comfortable with the villagers that helped raise them nor that they are undermining the role the villagers played in their childhood, it is just a result of the bond they share with their parents and their belief of safe and constant safe house in their homes and lives. This point can be proven in the interviews. When asked about their living, the children spent most time talking about their parents who, quite literally, consist of their home space and also the villagers that helped raise them, though not equally but with enough emphasis to understand their role of importance in their life. It is much like how individuals talk about their grand parents. Though they are an important part of their lives, they always come after home or parents, not because they are loved any less but because they are not around constantly.
