The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart represents a differentiation between the people who had their own homes and stayed in a rental house in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that with the time advanced there was an opposite trend observed between the two classes of people. The percentage of homeowners increased day by day, while the rent decreased.
In 1918, the percentage of rental people was far higher than owners, in this period only 22 percent had their own home, while 78 percent had none. Four consecutive periods 1939, 1953, 1991, 2001 had almost the same amount of ownerships, approximately 32 percent. In the case of rent, the percentage was between 78 to 79.
In 1961, the difference between the owner and tenant climbed down, whereas 40 percent of people had their own house and 59 percent of people rented other houses. In 1981, the case was similar but the trend was opposite. In 1971, a noticeable thing happened: in this particular period, the percentage of owner and renter was the same and the percentage was 50 percent.
