Reading explains that many employees in United States want to do job four days a week instead of five days a week and and suggest to pay eighty percent of their original salary. Consequently, they can get more rest, reduce unemployment and spend more time with family. The lecture refutes all these points made in reading.
First, According to lecturer, this suggestion may lead to firm to spend more money, which balance the benefit obtained by paying less to worker. He claims that by hiring new employ and acquire medical health and training means spending more money. In addition, there will need more office and computers for new employees would simply cut the benefit.
Second, lecture suggests that four days working scenario may increase the unemployment. He contends that there may increase expectation to get five days work in four days and this overtime works can increase unemployment.
Finally, working less days comparatively have greater risk to lose job. Because of less stability in office they may not get promotion. On the other hand people working five days a week have more chances to become manager and have responsibility to manage entire week works.
