Overall, there was an overall growth in the proportion of countryside inhabitants in all regions and in the world as a whole. Additionally, it is forecast to rise further by 2030.
In 1950, only 30% of people dwelled in urban regions. However, half a century later, there was a surge in this number as it witnessed a rise to just under 50%. By 2030 the figure is expected to have a successive growth of 10% Meanwhile, Latin America’s data on urban dwellers was highest of all mentioned categories, rising from 40% in 1950 to 70% in 2000, with a predicted further increase to 80% in 2030
However, the figures and trends for Africa and Asia are similar. In Africa, about 11% were urban dwellers in 1950, compared with 12% in Asia. By 2000, the numbers then experienced a sharp increase to almost 40% in both continents. In 2030, the data of urban population in Asia is projected to grow higher than that of Africa, at 55% and 50% respectively.
