The bar graph illustrates the proportion of households in the UK and Wales that owned and rented shelters from 1918 to 2011.
In general, the tendency of these two categories is in contrast. While the citizers eamed money for buying their own houses, the number of residents who seemed to pay for renting accommodation shrunk over period of time.
By looking at the detail, we can see clearly that in the first year shown, there was only around 23% of households in owned their places and the figure of whom rented shelters kept over 75% of families in England and Wales, which were respectively the lowest and highest datas as a whole. Moreover, the years of 1939 and 1953 had their ratios remain unchanged in both terms of owning and renting with about 32% and 68% in order. Especially, the two percentages met each other by 1971 at exact 50% of households. In addition, in the latest period of 2011, the trend tends to turn different compared to others because of its slight increase in rented accommodations (roughly 32% rose to 35%) and a subtle decrease in owned accommodation (nearly 70% dropped to 65%).
