Traditional Yemeni Wedding
Do you know how Yemeni people celebrate their weddings? All people around the world celebrate wedding parties, and they give the groom and the bride their best days during this party. In addition, they let them wear delighting and beautiful clothes either traditional or modern. Each one of them has his own customs and traditions. As an example, here in Yemen, we have three main steps to celebrate weddings, and they are the engagement, the wedding vows, and the wedding party.
In the beginning, the engagement is the key that opens the gate of the wedding. First, the female relatives of the young man go and visit the girl's house, and they look at her. Then they get back to the man and describe her. Eventually, if he agrees to marry her, they propose the girl to the young man. If the opposite happens, they don't go and propose her.
The second step is the wedding vows in which the young man and the girl become illegally married couple. After the man pays the money for the girl, they call a sheikh to make the wedding vows; by giving some Islamic pieces of advice, motivating young men to marry, and telling the young man and the girl's father or her sponsor what to say.
The last and the longest step is the wedding party. We do a lot of things and have much fun. For example, few days before the wedding party, we invite people whom we know, and in the wedding day, we welcome them. Beside, we bring and prepare a big feast with meat for the guests. Afternoon, we go dancing in our traditional way like Zerbady dance and Pitaiq dance. Moreover, we make a night musical party, and we bring a singer, or we make a comedian play. Sometimes we make a party before the wedding day that we call "Sharih".
To conclude, ways of wedding parties are different all over the world. Sometimes they depend on people's ancestries, customs, or religions. Furthermore, wedding is the start point of eternal happy life. No matter how different are the ways, what matters is how they enjoy.
