The table compares the quantity of waste that was produced in six countries from 1980 to 2000.

Overall, the amount of waste production in the us was the largest , while ireland had the lowest quantity of waste production.

In 1980, the quantity of waste production in the us was the highest, at 131 millions of tonnes, followed by japan ( at 28 millions of tonnes ). In addition, the figure for waste production in poland ranked the third, at 4 millions of tonnes. Over the following 20 years, the us waste production rose gradually and reached a peak of 192 million tonnes, which was 139 millions of tonnes higher than the figure for japan. During the same period, the amount of waste production in poland observed a slight increase to 6,6 m.o.t.

Regarding the korea and ireland waste production, these countries had no recorded amounts of waste production in 1980 and 1990 respectively. In 1980, the quantity of waste produced in Portugal was 2 million tonnes, which was 1,4 millions of tonnes higher than that in ireland. After 20 years, the former and the latter witnessed a slow rise to 6,6 and 5 millions of tonnes respectively. In contrast, korea experienced a decline in waste production from 31 million tonnes in 1990 to 19 million in 2000.
