The bar chart show average weekly households expenditure in some regions in the UK between 2007 to 2009

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates expenditure per week by households in certain areas of the UK between 2007 and 2009.

A glance at the bar chart shows that the amount of expenditure was highest in London, while the opposite was true for North East. Another highlight is that households in the South of the country spent more on average than those in the North.

British households spent about £460 per week, while the expenditure per week for households in London was around £550 per week and that was the highest. Similarly, the levels of household spending in the South East, East and South West were also higher than that of the national average. The figures for those three areas were nearly £530, £490 and £480 in turn.

By contrast, households in the West Midlands, the North West, the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the North East spent less than the national average. The amount of money spent on average in the West Midlands, the North West and the East Midlands were roughly similar, at about £430 to £450 per week. The average expenditure for Yorkshire and the Humber was slightly lower, at nearly £400 per week. The North East had the lowest expenditure, just below £400 per week.
