driverless cars

Essay topics:

driverless cars

The reading passage and the lecture are both about driverless cars. From their contexts it can be stated that the discussion is mainly about if the advantages of them are real. While the author of the text claims that this new technology has positive impact in our daily lives, the lecturer completely refutes the arguments in the article. Hence, arguing that these explanations are faulty.

Firstly, it is said by lecturer that all computers softwares are prone to errors, since they are projected by human hands. For example, one of these autonomous cars hit another car last month. This directly contradicts the reading passage that denotes that driverless cars could reduce the accident numbers, as a result being much safer.

Secondly, the lecturer safely assumes that autonomous cars do not reduce overall pollution. This is because more people would be on road , including young and old people, which would lead to an increase in the number of cars. Therefore, even if they use more sustainable fuel resources, there would be an increase in pollution. This idea strongly contrasts with the article that mentions that this technology is environment friendly.

Finally, the lecturer believes that drive cars could be a relaxing time for drivers and a welcoming distraction. Using the autonomous cars, this extra time could be spent with work or just wasted. The text, on the other hand, states that driverless cars give to drivers extra time to be focused on other kind of activities such as reading.
