Sudden declining of sea otters

Essay topics:

Sudden declining of sea otters

The reading and the lecture both are about the sudden declining of sea otters. While the author of the article asserts that the cause of declining of sea otters mainly because of two reasons: the environmental pollution or attacks of predators, The lecturer disputes the claims mentioned in the article . His position is that the predictor is most likely the cause of upsurge in declining rate of sea otters.
According to the reading, after the investigation, pollution seemed more likely cause of sea otters death along the Alaskan coast. The author mentions that the increase of chemical level in the sea water caused by the oils rigs and other sources of chemical pollution are responsible for polluting the sea water, which lead to life threatening infection in sea otters and indirectly cause deaths. This particular argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that the pollution theory is dwindle by the fact that, no one can find any dead seas otters along the Alaskan coast. So, the pollution is not causing any infection to sea otters
Secondly, the author mentions that the whatever had effecting the sea otters also effecting the other mammals. He goes, on to say that the uneven concentration of pollutant along the coast cause the uneven declining of sea otters. The lecturer, however, asserts that, human hunters is responsible of the death of the other sea mammals and if the proper diet is not available to the oscars then they have to change their diet from large mammals to smaller mammals. He also said that the uneven death of sea otters is not because of the pollution, but because of the location. The location where sea otters are stable may be shallow and rocky and oscars are bigger in size that’s why they cannot eat the sea otters.
