As an illustrative example if company is facing a loss in a product because of increased competition then idealistic approach would suggest reducing the cost of commodity and delivering best quality. Now quality and cost have direct proportion and so acheiving idealism results in dilemma. Pracitcal attitude in this scenario would be to study the competitor , analyze the market trends and accordingly make aggressive advertisements and promotions keeping other factors constant whcich would result in better market capitalization. History is the evidence of the fact that pragmatist have been able to chase the desired results and reach the zenith of success by being politic rather than ideal and ethical. The engineer who studies his model in ideal situation will sought to make the ideal design but practical approach would require him to study his design in all inclement weather. This practical approach is neccessary to make improptu decisions and situations where ideal thoughts and actions does not suffice.

In this competitive world being ideal is what every individual , organizaion, venture aims to achieve but pragmatism is required to survive. Ideal approach may seem the best but prudent thinking is required in response to variation and achieveing realistic goals.
