The line graph compares the proportion of young people aged 16-24 who live in England and are unemployed, from 1993 to 2012.
It is clear that the rate of unemployment of young adults in London is continuously the highest during the two decades period. Noticeably, the overall trend of all four percentages were quite similar since 1993 to 2012.
From 1993 (about 22%) to 2002 (15%) the percentage of the unemployed aged 16-24 which live in London was declining successively to reach its minimum for 9 years. However, the consecutively dropping time of percentage unemployed aged 16-24 rest of England was slightly longer, from 1993 to 2004, while the proportions were lower, as the 11-year period witnessed the percentage to reach approximately 12% from around 17%. In the rest years till 2012, the two percentages surged to 25% and 20% respectively.
The overall age unemployment rates were significantly lower, either London or rest of London. The ratios were 14% and 10% respectively in 1993, and both their lowest points were attained at somewhere from 2001 to 2005 (around 7% and 4% respectively). Eventually in 2012, the gap between these two ratios was dramatically smaller (nearly 2%) compared to about 5% in 1993.
