In this set of materials, both the reading and the lecture discuss whether edmontosaur, a dinosaur lived hundred million year ago in North Slope, did migrate south or not. Whereas, the reading support the migration, the professor disregard these points and claims that they are not convincing reasons for the edmontosaur to migrate.
First, the reading says that since edmontosaur diet execlusively on plants, considering the fact that during the extremely cold winter in North Slope there are no plant for edmontosaur to eat it is reasnoble for this dinosaur to migrate. Nonetheless, the professor doesn’t like the idea and posits that hundred millions years ago the climate was much warmer. He added that it is known that in such arctic climate sun shine for 24 hours a day during the summer, thus a lot of plants grow during the summer and its possible for edmontosaur to survive in winter feeding on the dead plants.
Second, in the reading the author claims that because edmontosaur live in herds they will migrate in herds as well. Notwithstanding, the professor thinks that living in herds does not mean that those animals migrate in herds. He explains that animal live in herds because the need the support of being around each other to avoid predator attack. She added that Razof a kind of animal lives in herds in the US, but does not migrate anywhere.
Finally, the article states that edmontosaur was physically capable of migrating long distances. On the other hand, the professor says that although adult edmontosaur was able to migrate, juvenile edmontosaur was not physically able to migrate. If they were to migrate together, they will slow down the herd and never reach their destination. He added that it is not possible for edmontosaur to leave their juvenile behind them.
