The line graphs demonstrate the proportion of houses owning electrical devices and the hours spent on housework in a week in a single country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, it is clear that the ownership of electrical appliances rose over the 99 year period. In contrast, the number of hours of housework fell over the period, as less people did housekeeping.
In 1920, the two most common appliances were washing machines and vacuum cleaners, with figures of 40% and 30% respectively. While for refrigerators, fewer people owned them, without even reaching 5% of the households in total. During the given period, the figures for washing machines ownership fluctuated before reaching around 73% in the final year. However, as for the remaining two devices, there was a steady rise in their percentages which led to all houses owning them in 2019.
Throughout 99 years, the time spent on doing housework fell dramatically. In the year 1920, people's average time on housekeeping was 50 hours per week. Moreover, the hours decreased sharply to only 20 hours in a week. This decrease continued on till the final year and eventually ended at 11 hours of housework weekly in 2019.
