The maps below show the changes that occurred to a town named Willington in 1780, 1860 and 2000.
The maps illustrate the developments and changes happening in the town of Willington over three different years: 1780, 1860 and 2000.
From an overall view, we can obviously notice that the town went from being green to becoming more built up residentially and commercially.
Back to 1780, the town simply started from four farming spaces on the eastern side of the river. Also, the housing area was made up of two villages with only 100 houses in the north east. The remaning section of Willington was mainly a forest.
In 1860, significant changes were applied in this town, including a bridge between the two sides of the river and a road from the river till the village. The number of farms was considerably lower as it went from 4 to only 2 farms. While the village expanded and more homes were built, the trees area began to shrink in size.
By 2000, the woods were completely wipped out and replaced with a number of school buildings and sport fields linked to the village through a road. Moreover, the housing part of Willington continued to grow larger reaching around 500 homes. Only two more new things were built next to the river; one is a number of shops lying on the southeastern bank, the other is located in the south, namely a waterland for birds.
