The first diagram illustrates the percentage of electrical devices namely washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners in households from 1920-2019, while the other depicts the hours that people spend on housework per week.
Overall, the number of hours of housework fell significantly throughout the 100-year period as the popularity of all three electrical gadgets. From 1920 to 1980, no one used refrigerators at first but then the number grew rapidly to 100% that every household have at least one of them. Starting at 30%, the vacuum cleaner has shown its preference that the proportion of people having it did not decline. The other electrical appliance which is the washing machine has the highest percentage of users in 1920 and after that, it fluctuated slightly to 65%. Both vacuum cleaners and refrigerators remained at 100% from 2000, whereas the other kept rising by 10% in 2019.
There was a downtrend in the number of hours that spending on housework such as washing clothes, preparing meals, or cleaning between 1920 and 2019. In 1920, people spent 50 hours on housework per week. Then the number decreased significantly to 20 hours and in 2019 it dropped a half.
