The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The table elucidates the percentage of consumer spending on 3 different categories in 5 countries (Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey) in 2002.
It is noticeable that, the most of consumer goods had consumed on food/drink/tobacco, which portion spent more than 10% in 2002. Turkey showed the far most expenditure on food/drink/tobacco of 32.14% while the proportion of the spending habit in Ireland followed closely of 28.91%. The rest of countries recorded as 16.36%, 18.80% and 15.77% on food/drinks/tobacco for Italy, Spain and Sweden respectively.
Meanwhile, for the leisure and education categories showed the least amount spent throughout 2002 in five countries. Turkish people used 4.35% of their money on leisure and education and the second highest expenditure was counted by Italian people of 3.20%.
The last item illustrated by the table is clothing and footwear. The most outstanding figure is 9% for Italian people consuming on clothes and footwear. The rest of consumer expenditure are having the similar percentage of 6.63% for Turkey, 6.51% for Spain and 6.43 for Ireland.
It is apparent that, all the European people had used most of their money for the groceries or daily intakes whereas the other categories could be considered as an extra.
