The chart describes the percentage of people who can read and write by seven regions and two genders in 2011.
Overall, all the people in Central Asia and Europe can both write and read, while the literacy rate in Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for the lowest rate among the seven countries.
According to the bar charts, only two countries have the same literacy rates with both men and women being at around 100%. In East Asia and Latin America, the percentage of literate males was higher than females. Also, the number of males in the two countries was similar. The percentage of females in East Asia is almost 87% and more than 3% in Latin America. The difference between men and women rates was maximum by 20% in South and West Asia.
We can see that the lowest literacy rates were recorded in the Arab States, South-West Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa with rates of 75%, 65% and 60% respectively. The rating of people who can read and write from Sub-Saharan Africa is the least valued with rates less than 80%. The difference in literacy rate for males reached around 30% when comparing Central Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. This value was more for females close to 40%.
