The reading and the lecture are both about using a device called box-shaped to assist in growing trees in the aim of against desertification. More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer presents three theories about the useless of this device. The lecturer disputes the claims made in the article. His position is that these clues are not persuasive.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states this operation of this device is cost 25 dollars which is a high cost. The article mentions that some countries have millions of trees and they can not provide this amount of money. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that this device can be reused to another trees when the tree become bigger. Additionally, he points out that by dividing the 25 dollars into the all trees that will use the device the cost will be reasonable.
Secondly, the author suggests it is required from the farmers to preserve and fix the device, but these farmers have other works to bring food to their families. In the article it is said that it is awkwardness ro stimulate those farmers. Again, the professor specifically addresses this point when he states using this device farmers can collect more water to other plants and if the government give the access for them they can use it in vegetables. He goes on to say that farmers can use the branches of the trees to use them as fire wood, so this can motivate the farmers.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that the ability of the device to store water is limited. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim by contending that the roots of the tree can reach to the underground to absorp water. He notes that in Sahara desert 90 percent of the trees still thriving after removig the device.
