The given line graph illustrates the average amount of CO2 emitted per person in four different countries namely: the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal for the period of 40 years, commencing from 1967. Overall, the average CO2 emissions released in Italy and Portugal showed steady and significant rises throughout the period, while the figures for the UK and Sweden experienced downward trends. Despite these, the average greenhouse emitted in Portugal was always the lowest and it remained the highest in the UK. In 1967, an Italian and a Portugalian emitted an average of over 4 and 1 metric tonnes CO2, respectively. For the next 10 years, the amount of CO2 in Italy experienced a sharp increase, exceeding over 6 metric tonnes in 1977. From 1997 to 1997, this figure grew gradually and slightly by approximately 1 metric tonne and remained at under 8 metric tonnes until the end of the period. In the meantime, the amount of CO2 released by a Portugalian experienced a dramatic rise throughout a period of 30 years and stood at around 5.5 metric tonnes in 1997, and then it almost remained unchanged in the last 10 years. In terms of the UK and Sweden, stood at nearly 11 metric tonnes, the amount of CO2 released by the British was the highest in 1967. It was followed by Sweden with fewer for 2 metric tonnes. This figure for the UK showed a gradual decline of 2 metric tonnes throughout the period and continued to remain the most CO2 emissions country among the listed. In contrast, the figure for Sweden experienced a sharp surge to reach nearly 11 metric tonnes in 1977, and then decreased substantially in the remaining period and together with Portugal were the least amount of CO2 countries in the end of the period.
