At the beginning of the period, beef and lamb experienced the highest numbers with 220 and 150 grams, respectively. In the next three years, there was a moderate decline in the numbers of consumption of beef and lamb to 170 grams and 110 grams respectively. However, throughout the 16-year period, the amounts of beef and lamb consumed dropped to approximately 100 and 50 grams, respectively. Fish consumption also decreased but much less significantly to just below 50, and even though it was the less popular food, consumption levels were the most stable.
Turning to the figures for chicken, it came in third place in 1979 with 140 grams. During the 25-year period, there was a sharp increase in the consumption of chicken to nearly 250 grams in 2004.
Overall, there was a mix of changing patterns with respect to the figures for the consumption of fish and three types of meat in a European country between 1979 and 2004. Throughout the period, the number of the use of fish was constantly receiving the lowest figures. Noticeably, the statistics of chicken recorded the most significant growth among all categories.
