It is clear that the highest percentage of home users used the Internet for emailing. The proportion of those who used the Internet for social media declined among the older age groups, while the figures for paying bills online or online banking was lowest in the age group from 15 to 24.
Emailing was an activity carried out by approximately 90% of all home internet users. In comparison, only around 60% of home users used the Internet for social networking or for paying bills online and online banking.
In terms of emailing, the figure for all age groups was over 80%. Social networking was the most popular internet use among the 15 to 24 age group, accounting for nearly 90% home users, compared with 80% and 60% among the 25 to 34 and 35 to 44 age groups respectively. The figures continued to fall further to 20% of the 65 or over age group. Only 40% of 15 to 24 years old people used the internet to pay bills online, the percentage was higher in the others group. Almost 80% of the 25 to 34 age group used the internet for this purpose.
