Overall, it can clearly be seen that the total number of closures and openings fluctuate. Moreover, while the shops that are opened was highest at the start, it had been overtaken by the number of closed shops by the end of the period.
In terms of the number of opened markets at the beginning, it stood at around 8500 in 2011. The openings then dropped significantly to just below 4000 in 2012 before rising moderately by around 2200 two years later. Moreover, it experienced a moderate decrease to exactly 4000 in 2015 and remained at the same level in 2016. From this point onward, it climbed slightly to just above 4000 a year later and fell at exactly 3000 in the final year.
Regarding how many shops that are closed at the start, it began at around 6500. The closures witnessed a moderate decrease to about 6000 in 2012. It rose moderately by around 1000 in 2013 before falling sharply to just below 1000 in 2015. The figure of shops that are closed then increased dramatically to just above 5000 in 2016 and slightly declined in 2017 to exactly 5000. Thereafter, it experienced a slight increase to about 5100 in 2018.
