Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart illustrates the changes that have taken place in the weekly income spent by families in a specific country in the two years 1968 and 2018.
Overall, while spending on food, fuel and power, clothing and footwear, and personal goods witnessed a decrease, there were upward trends in spending on housing, transport, and leisure, with the exception of household goods. In addition, the largest proportion of weekly income was spent on food in 1968, and on leisure in 2018.
In 1968, food made up the highest percentage of total expenditure, at 35%; however, this figure sharply declined by nearly 50% in 2018. A similar trend had taken place in weekly spending on personal goods and clothing and footware, with the initial figures in 1968 of 7% and 10% respectively. Finally, the figure for fuel and power dropped from roughly 6% in 1968 to 4% in 2018 of the total expenditure per week.
On the other hand, one-tenth of weekly spending was on housing in 1968, almost double in the next 50 years. Moreover, the figures for both transport and leisure were the same, at nearly 8% in 1968, and afterwards increased to approximately 14% and 22% respectively, in 2018. Meanwhile, throughout 50 years, the data for household goods remained stable at 8%.
