the use of Chaco buildings
In the lecture, professor discusses about the accuracy of the reasons given in the passage. He claims that all three theories are not convincing enough by giving examples and introducing observations.
It is said in the first theory that Chaco buildings are made in a way that many families could live in them, but although these apartment-like structures are similar to those in Taos from the outside, there are a lot of differences between them in the inside. If many families used to live in them, there should be facilities to support such life style. For example there should exist many ovens, one for each family but according to observations, the number of ovens in there can only support up to ten families even though the buildings have plenty of rooms.
Second theory demonstrates the idea of using Chaco structures as a place for saving food- especially grain maize, but again this theory is not correct. Because evidences show there is not any grain maize left over on the floor of large rooms of Chaco. If the second theory was true, then it would seem logical to find some traces of grain maize in the rooms, so like the first one, the second theory cannot be accepted.
Third theory is disqualified by scientists too as they found many other things beside broken pots there. Things like tools and materials used for making buildings that reinforces the idea of using the building as place to throw out trashes and broken pots could belong to those who own tools. So the place was not built to hold ceremonies.
