The reading and the lecture discussing about the causes of the little ice age which occurs during 1350 - 1900 but in vary contrast ways.
Firstly, reading says that ocean current could be the reason for that because when the fresh water enter into the gulf mexico it might causes the low temperature to freeze enough . But, the lecturer refutes this point by stating that if it so, then there should not ice age at south america and Africa but there was ice age at these places. And further, should happen only in North america and Europe but things are not happens like that.
Secondly, reading argues that the volcanic ashes would be the reason for ice age because longer time of no sunlight and sulfer dioxide and carbon dioxide may be reduced the temperature and causes the ice age. Again, the speaker refutes this point by saying that when there is these kinds of changes, then, people might noticed the colourful sunset, snow and the large dust clouds but people did not report like that.
Thirdly, reading claims that less human population would be the reasons for the ice age because during that period there was warfare, disease and social conflicts. And due to these there was plenty of oxygen available may be helped the forest grow well that lower temperature and eventually became frozen. Still, the professor opposes this point by explaining that during that human might be destroyed the forest and started cultivating the land for vegetation that reason plenty of oxygen available during that time.
To sum up, reading suggests that ocean current, volcanic eruption and the less human population might causes for the little ice age but the professor refutes all these points with logical reasonable evidences.
