The graph below shows the unemployment rates in two European countries since 2000 and predicted unemployment rates until 2020.
The graph represents the percentage of labour force rates in Spain and France from 2000 to 2020. Overall, the unemployment rates in France were relatively stable within the graph given. Comparatively, Spanish people who were out of work are expected to increase by 2020.
Looking at details, in 2013, twice as many French identified as unemployed (5.8%) when compared with Spanish people who identified themselves as unemployed (2.2%). The French unemployment rates experienced a small increase since 2000 (from about 5.5%), although this increase was not statistically significant (to 6.5%) by 2015. By contrast, the unemployment rates for Spain increased substantially from 4% to 10% between 2005 and 2010, which figure continued to rise to end at close to 13% by 2015.
In all projections, the unemployment rates in Spain are higher than the unemployment rates in France in the equivalent projection. However, there is some crossover of Spain and French across the variant projections. The unemployment rates are projected to rise by five years for Spain whereas France is predicted to be remained constant.
