We all know that glass are dangerous for birds, the reading passage explores several solutions to prevent injuries to birds, the professor's lecture deals with the same topic, however, he thinks that all of those solutions can not effective solves this problem, which contradicts what the reading states, and he uses three specific reasons to support his view.
First, even though the reading passage suggests that replacing regular glass with one-way glass is a solution to this issue, since birds can not see in through a window and they will not try to fly through it, the professor argues in the lecture that birds will recognise one-way glass as mirror, and because birds don't understand the difference between a mirror and a glass, so that birds will still try to fly through it and thus hurt themselves.
Moreover, contrary to the statement in the reading that painting colorful lines on regular glass can be another solution, the professor contends that this statement is unreasonable, then he support his point with the fact that birds will think the painted stripes are holes, which means birds are tend to fly through them. Furthermore, if unpainted area is small, the inside of building will be very dark. Obviously, the professor's argument disproves its counterpart.
Finally, the professor asserts that artificial magnetic will not work to protect birds, whereas the author of the reading claims that magnetic signals are able to make birds away from the building with powerful electromagnets. The professor proves that this claim is indefensible by pointing out that birds use magnetic fields to navigate only when they travel in a long distance, in other words, this ability is not used when they travel between a city, so that create an artificial magnetic in the buildings will not help.
