The passage and lecture both discuss three statements around a process which is studying the animal fossils of Tyrannosaurs rex, a dinosaur, and that it's leg bone still might contain the remains of it's actual tissues like blood vessels, red blood cells, and collagen matrix. The professor in the lecture explains that those evidence of remains are not practical and they may have another explanation. So, he refutes each measure made in the passage.
To begin with, the reading claims that the fossilized leg bone showed several small branching channels inside indicating the probability that those hollows might be previous blood vessels. The professor invalidate this point by stating that those hollows are not the remains of blood vessels. Instead, they may be something else like bacteria which colonize the hollows when it live inside bones. This lead to the formation of traces of organic matter, like a soft and moist residue. Thus, the reading passage's first point is invalid.
Second, the passage posits that microscopic examination revealed various spheres that could be the remains of red blood cells, especially that those contained iron and were about the size of red blood cells. However, the professor refutes this measure by saying that the same identical criteria were found in another species of animals with no red blood cells. So, it is not possible that those sphere present the remains of red blood cells in Tyrannosaurus rex. There is a logic explanation that they might be from a different origin, like a reddish mineral. Consequently, the reading passage's second point is contradicted.
Third, the reading asserts that the leg bone indicated the presence of collagen. The professor opposed this point by providing some facts about the biochemical characteristics of collagen, that is never been found in organisms that age more than thousand years. So, how it is supposed to last in a species that is over 70-million years old. This contradict with their facts and ideas about collagen. A possible explanation is that the collagen found may be from another origin, like human skin of researchers. As a result, with the reasoning, the reading passage's final proposed measure is refuted.
