First, the reading states that, early animals were large because of great amount of oxygen and oxygen-rich environment makes products and species larger then today, However the speaker tells us that, in the past, oxygen levels was not as much as today due to volcanic activity. As you all know, volcanoes generate toxic to atmosphere and volcanic activities was widespread in the past.
Second, the author asserts that there were abundant plants on the world in order to consume by animals and more foods made them larger. This transferred genetically over generations and adequate food supply makes animal bigger over time. The speaker, however, this statement was true but they were low grade of nutrients. Researchers say that ancient plant was scarce due to lower oxygen level and foods were contaminant.
Finally, The reading tells us that early earth’s warm climate make growth, animal did not spend their energy to warm up. However, the lecturer is not favor of this idea because smallest species and people live in warm area. Large body creates more temperature to live and having large body is disadvantage in warm places. Animals cool off body in order keep body temperature in balance through consume food.
