In the lecture, the professor discusses why none of the three ways mentioned in the passage on preventing birds from flying into glass are plausible.
To begin with, the reading claims that one-way glass looks opaque from the outside, so the birds will not try to fly through it. However, the speaker refutes this by saying that the reflections of the surroundings, such as sky and trees, on the outside of the glass make them no difference from transparent glass. Hence, birds can still get hurt on the glass.
Next, whilst the second method in the passage believes that decorating transparent glass with colorful patterns can remind birds, the lecturer points out that if this solution were to be effective, the open wholes on the glass have to be extremely small, diminishing the amount of light indoors. Otherwise, the birds would still try to fly through the glass where there is no colorful paintings.
Finally, though birds are capable of navigating according to the magnetic field, as the instructor states, this is only restricted to long-distance migration. On the other hand, they mainly make use of sight to locate when traveling short distances. This indicates that it is unrealistic to utilize man-made magnetic field to keep them away from city buildings, which is contradicted to the solution in the reading.
